The Automation Technician, R&D is responsible for a project as a lead or lead-in-training under a current lead technician. Responsible for overseeing the project: work area, technicians working on the job, meeting deadlines, completing task lists, craftsmanship, and organization of the job.
Your role in our team
- Decide where junction boxes, sensor wires, valves, pneumatic hoses, etc. need to be mounted for functionality
- Assemble and modify assemblies, prototypes, panels and electronic systems according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electrical principals
- Modify performance and operation of machine component parts to specifications
- Confer with technician(s) in charge of a project and R&D Engineers on recommendations in mechanical and electrical design changes
- Perform upper-level diagnostics, testing, and repairs as needed in various conditions
- Debug complete equipment from start to finish
- Recommend and/or set up standards and improvements (troubleshoot in-house equipment for any electrical and/or mechanical problems)
- Provide constructive suggestions when reviewing and looking at other technician’s work
- Delegate tasks to technicians working on the project and gives direction as needed
- Act as a model employee for other technicians in the shop and while traveling, on-site and off-site
- Complete expenses timely and accurately
- Travel to trade shows, fairs, and customer sites to set up, operate, and maintain equipment for high-quality product demonstrations and/or tests, some of which may be done independently
- Support the transition of product knowledge from R&D to production, with the appropriate departments
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Show a strong eagerness to learn and a positive attitude everyday
- Work on special projects as needed
- Take responsibility across divisions for assigned tasks and topics
- Give accurate and honest reviews of other technicians when needed
Your profile
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience in manufacturing, machine, or electrical assembly required, or an associate’s degree in manufacturing, Electrical, Machine Assembly or Robotics/Automation Technology, etc
- Experience in automation industry preferred
- Uses hand tools and power tools at a proficient level
- Reads and understands prints for assembly of mechanical hardware
- Reads and understands basic electrical prints for wiring on assemblies
- Demonstrates intermediate mechanical knowledge
- Demonstrates basic technical mathematical knowledge
- Demonstrates basic to intermediate electrical knowledge
- Displays great attention to detail
- Exhibits a “think like the business owner” mentality
- Must be able to work independently
- Must be able to work together as a team to reach the common goal
- Must be able to understand both verbal and written instructions and follow them with precision
- Exhibits clear communication (verbal and written)
- Demonstrates basic computer literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and/or business software
- Demonstrates working knowledge of Creo Viewer
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of ERP System and uses it correctly
- Exhibits good troubleshooting skills, both mechanical and electrical
- Ability to work with others in a variety of conditions with a positive attitude
- Demonstrates intermediate level computer skills to support machine troubleshooting
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the year
