This Controls Designer / Electrical Engineer plays a key role in developing electrical and pneumatic schematics, electrical panel layouts, and automation controls for next‑generation packaging and handling machinery. This role supports R&D by exploring new design approaches, integrating modern automation engineering technologies, and transforming conceptual ideas into practical engineering solutions. Work includes Allen-Bradley PLC programming support, HMI integration, and ensuring all designs meet product specifications, technical requirements, and timelines.
Your role in our team
- You will develop electrical schematics and control panel layouts using EPlan software.
- You will work with technicians and validation engineers to update electrical schematics and control panels.
- You will develop solutions that improve the controls design process.
- You will create and maintain standards for panel design, layout, and wiring, ensuring compliance.
- You will identify and validate new and innovative PLC/HMI control solutions for future products.
- You will apply electrical standards compliant with UL, NEC, EE, CE, IEE, CSA, and other regulations.
- You will manage the panel construction area to ensure it remains safe, efficient, and organized.
- You will meet with automation programmers to determine required electrical components.
- You will design safety circuits that ensure machines operate safely and reliably.
- You will provide recommendations for design improvements at all phases of machine development.
- You will assist with electrical and PLC troubleshooting during debug phases.
- You will collaborate with sister companies to standardize controls architecture across the Körber ecosystem.
- You will maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- You will demonstrate eagerness to learn and bring a positive attitude each day.
- You will participate in company meetings and cross‑functional discussions.
- You will support special projects as needed.
- You will take ownership of assigned tasks across divisions.
Your profile
- You have experience using EPlan or similar electrical design software.
- You have strong knowledge of electrical engineering, automation systems, PLCs, HMIs, and control panels.
- You have proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- You have the creativity needed to develop new engineering concepts and standards.
- You have the ability to plan projects 3–6 months ahead.
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- You have excellent attention to detail.
- You have the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- You have strong organizational skills and can manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- You have practical problem‑solving skills.
- You have electrical troubleshooting experience, ideally including Allen Bradley/Rockwell PLCs.
- You have the ability to make sound independent decisions.
- You have a strong desire to meet project and business needs.
- You have the ability to travel up to 10%.
- You have the ability to sit, stand, and focus for extended periods.
- You have the physical capability to regularly reach, bend, move around the facility, and lift up to 40 lbs.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Automation Engineering, or related field required
- Experience in controls engineering, automation, or electrical design preferred
- Manufacturing industry experience preferred
