Electrical and Controls Engineer

Your role in our team

  • You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to perform complex design, development, testing, maintenance, enhancement, and support of Material Handling Automation Equipment.
  • You will design, engineer, and oversee the implementation of electrical and controls scope of complex systems that integrate hardware and software.
  • You will develop, deploy, and commission and integrate PLC code to achieve system functionality requirements.
  • You will complete estimates for electrical and controls engineering level of effort.
  • You will perform reviews of complex customers' standards and specifications and other documentation to determine electrical and controls requirements.
  • You will develop recommendations for ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction and improvement in customer satisfaction.
  • You will complete the quality process through the execution of complex module, subsystem and system inspection and test procedures.
  • You will provide on-call technical support (remote and on-site) on a rotating basis with a team of 24/7 support engineers.

 

Your profile

  • You have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification may be required in some areas. P.Eng license in Ontario and/or other Canadian provinces is an asset.
  • You have gained at least one to two (1-2) years of academic or professional experience in related field and successful demonstration of knowledge and responsibilities.
  • You have current experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, and Schneider PLC programming languages, architecture, and networks. Other platforms a plus.
  • You have network design experience using Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, ASI Bus, and Modbus TCP industrial control/IT networks.
  • You have experience working with large scale industrial control systems, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, MCCs and electrical power distribution systems.
  • You have experience with conveyor system electrical and controls (parcel, mail, warehousing) including barcode and vision systems would be an asset.
  • You have expertise understanding electrical schematics (control panels, motor control panels, motor control centers, power distribution), wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings and reference manuals and systems instruction guides.
  • You have experience using AutoCAD Electrical and Eplan to develop/update drawings.
  • You have strong mechanical/electrical/controls troubleshooting/problem-solving skills.
  • You have experienced in applying complex knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures within the area of specialization.
  • you are a competent user of Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Windows operating systems.
  • You have strong command of the English language with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • You are self-motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges and tasks.
  • You are comfortable working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • You are dependable with a great work ethic and attendance.
  • You are able to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • You have experience establishing a good working relationship with all customers and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
  • You are able to oversee other vendors and subcontractors to support implementation of new systems.
  • Driver’s license in good standing is essential.
  • Physically able to climb ladders, work at heights and work in conditions of +30°C to -25°C.
  • You can travel up to 80% with a flexible work schedule between days, afternoons, nights and sometimes weekends (on average 40 hours/week with opportunity for overtime and sufficient schedule breaks).
