The Principal Project Engineer defines system architecture and sets technical standards across products and programs within the engineering organization. This role resolves the most complex cross-disciplinary engineering challenges and drives execution consistency across teams and regions through technical expertise and influence.
Your role in our team
- You will define system architecture across products and programs, establishing technical standards, frameworks, and guardrails that govern engineering delivery
- You will evaluate and execute high-impact design tradeoffs across scalability, cost, and reliability to ensure alignment with long-term product and business strategy
- You will lead resolution of the most complex technical challenges, including first-of-kind systems, cross-discipline integration failures, critical defect root cause analysis, and high-ambiguity design problems with no established playbook
- You will align architecture across engineering teams, regions, and programs, drive execution consistency, and serve as the technical decision-maker on cross-team engineering conflicts
- You will strengthen engineering quality across the organization by enforcing design review rigor, improving first-time-right execution outcomes, mentoring senior engineers, and driving the reduction of systemic rework
- You will partner with Product and Sales teams to validate solution feasibility, shape large program bids with sound technical assumptions, and identify risks of misalignment between sold scope and deliverable scope
- You will step into the highest-risk technical areas as needed, drive closure on systemic engineering issues, and provide technical leadership through expertise and accountability
- You will travel domestically up to 25% to support critical program reviews, customer engagements, and commissioning events
Your profile
- You have obtained a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline. A master’s degree or professional engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- You have gained 12 years of progressive engineering experience in automation, capital equipment, or material handling, with demonstrated depth across multiple engineering disciplines
- You have a proven track record of setting technical direction at the program or organizational level, resolving high-risk engineering challenges, and driving measurable improvement in engineering quality
- You have deep technical expertise in mechanical engineering applied to supply chain automation systems, including conveyor, sortation, and material handling equipment
- You have proven ability to architect complex systems under conditions of ambiguity, including structuring problems, evaluating tradeoffs, and driving decisions without precedent
- You can influence without direct authority, including aligning teams, resolving technical disagreements, and driving engineering consistency across programs and regions
- You have strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable terms for executive leadership, customers, and cross-functional stakeholders
- You have demonstrated the ability to elevate engineering team performance through mentorship, rigorous design reviews, process improvement, and the reduction of systemic defects
